Why Filter Changes Matter
Boiling tap filters remove chlorine, chloramines, sediment and other contaminants from your mains water supply. As the filter traps contaminants, it gradually becomes less effective. An overdue filter can:
- Affect the taste and smell of your hot drinks
- Allow scale-forming minerals to pass through unchecked
- Reduce water flow rate
- In extreme cases, allow bacterial growth in the filter media
How Often to Change
| Brand | Interval | Volume |
|---|---|---|
| Zip HydroTap | 6 months | 2,000 litres |
| Quooker (CUBE) | 12 months | 2,500 litres |
| Billi | 6-12 months | Varies by model |
| Grohe Red | 12 months | 3,000 litres |
| Franke | 6 months | 2,500 litres |
| Fohen | 6 months | 2,000 litres |
| InSinkErator | 6 months | 2,000 litres |
General Filter Change Procedure
While each brand has slightly different filter locations and mechanisms, the general procedure is:
- Turn off the cold mains isolation valve under the sink before starting
- Locate the filter housing — usually on the tank unit or on the cold inlet pipe under the sink
- Place a cloth or small towel under the filter to catch residual water
- Remove the old filter — usually a quarter-turn anticlockwise or a straight pull depending on type
- Insert the new filter — ensure it clicks or locks into position
- Restore water supply and check for any leaks at the filter housing
- Reset the filter indicator — method varies by brand (see below)
- Flush 2-3 litres of water through the tap before using for drinks
Resetting the Filter Indicator
Zip HydroTap
On G5 models, reset via the MyZip app or by holding the tap handle for 5 seconds. On G4 models, hold the front button for 10 seconds.
Quooker
CUBE filter reset is done via the Quooker app. If no app, reset by turning the unit off and on via the power switch.
Grohe Red
Hold the activation lever for 10 seconds with the tap closed to reset the filter counter.
InSinkErator
Hold the filter reset button on the tank unit for 5 seconds until the indicator light changes.
Which Filter to Buy
Always use the manufacturer's genuine filter or a certified compatible replacement. Cheap third-party filters may not fit correctly, may not filter effectively and can void your warranty. Filter part numbers:

- Zip HydroTap G4: 91202
- Grohe Red: Grohe 40547001
